So, what are my thoughts about Chapel?
Well, when I first found out about the Chapel requirement I was a little excited since we do not have this time set aside devoted to God in public colleges. However, once I began attending Chapel my thoughts greatly changed. For example, I noticed that most people have no desire to be there and are either chatting, texting, reading, or doing homework. These acts are very disrespectful and make Chapel a joke. Also, because Chapel is required and there is a limit to the amount of times that you can miss Chapel the significance of being there for God is taken away. Thus, Chapel has become more like a class and not a time for praising God.
On the other hand, for those of us who fail to make time for God Chapel is a good time to focus on Him and praise Him. However, this time should not be forced upon students because then this action could deem negative responses and become just another requirement to graduate from Faulkner.
As a result, I think that Chapel attendance should be voluntary because it would be more meaningful for those of us who actually desire to worship God. More people would probably pay attention, and they would be there for the right reasons. Most of us students are adults and should be able to make the choice of whether or not to praise God. Also, some students may want to spend time with God on their own time and not publicly.
Consequently, this Chapel attendance requirement could lead some students to fall away from God and some to even transfer to another college.
Please, let me know what your thoughts are on this subject.
